Note to Parents - Elementary Procedural Rules

Dear Parents,
In an effort to keep you fully informed about the structure of your child's classroom, we are sending this letter with our procedural rules. We are asking that you read this with your child and then sign that you have seen and agreed to the rules. Please then cut and send the signature portion back with your child the next school day.

Our general rules are found on the back of the discipline calendar in your child's communication folder and they are:

" I will talk at only at appropriate times.
" I will stay in my seat unless I have permission to get out.
" I will be kind to others.
" I will walk in halls and classrooms.
" I will keep my hands, feet and other objects to myself.
" I will respect my teacher's and other's property.
" I will follow directions.
" I will listen to my teacher or other adults.
" I will be responsible for myself.
" I will act responsibly throughout my school day (PE, cafeteria, computer lab, and library)

Specific to Mrs. Marshall's 2nd grade class is a classroom agreement which also includes:

1. Attentive Listening: To pay close attention to one another's expression of ideas, opinions, and feelings; to check for understanding and to let others know that they have been heard.
2. Appreciation/No putdowns: To treat others kindly; to state appreciation for unique qualities, gifts, skills and contributions; to avoid negative remarks, name-calling, hurtful gestures, and behaviors.
3. Right to Pass/Right to Participate: To have the right to choose when and to what extent one will participate in a group activity; to observe quietly if not participating actively; and to choose whether to offer observations later to a group when asked to do so.
4. Mutual Respect: To affirm the value and uniqueness of each person; to recognize and appreciate individual and cultural differences; and offer feedback that encourages growth.

Consequences for behaviors as stated in the communication folder are as follows:
1. Green-Great Day!!!!
2. Yellow-Warning (possible loss of some of recess)
3. Blue- (consequences could include, lose some or all of recess, sign the book)
4. Red-(consequences could include loss of recess, sign the book, write a letter to parents, phone call to parents, see the principal)

Our desire is to create a learning environment which will enable each child to reach his or her fullest potential. Working together will make this a successful year for all.

Thank you,
Elementary Staff
