Family and Consumer Science empowers individuals and families across the
life span to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse,
global society. The relationship between work and family is our unique
focus.
Course Descriptions
120-Personal
and Family Development. Designed to address a broad range on knowledge
and skills related to personal development and management, promotion of
strong families, and preparation for adult roles.
134-Career Studies. Provides opportunities to explore factors influencing
career choices and demonstrate employability skills that lead to career
successes especially in the areas of Family and Consumer Science.
TBA-Family and Career Management. Emphasizes preparation for family and
career roles, effective management, and personal and career effectiveness.
121-Individual & Family Life. Focus on personal development, interpersonal
relationships, effective individual and family functioning, and career
preparation within a changing society. (10-12)
128-Family Health Needs. Focuses on health and wellness of family members,
management of family health needs, special health needs and issues impacting
the family and its members, and career preparation.
122-Preparation for Parenting. Designed to provide individuals opportunities
to develop knowledge and skills in preparation to function effectively
in the role of parent or caregiver. (10-12)
123-Child Development. Designed to focus on knowledge and skills related
to the development, care, guidance, and protection of children.
126-Nutrition & Food Science. Concentrates on nutrition, food choices,
and food management skills for individuals and the family throughout the
life cycle. (10-12)
127-Food Science & Technology. Provides foundational training in the
area of food science and technology. (10-12)
124-Management. Encompasses material of the management process, management
of resources, managing multiple roles within the life span, and career
options and preparation. (10-12)
125-Consumer &Family Economics. Focuses on management of financial
resources and obligations to meet personal and family needs across the
life span. (10-12)
130-Apparel. Focuses on apparel from the perspectives of personal decision
making related to apparel, the apparel industry, and career preparation.

131-Textile & Apparel Design. Designed to address the textiles and
apparel industries, textile design and production, apparel design practices
and influences, and career preparation. (10-12)
132-Housing. Focuses on the management of family housing needs, housing
and the environment, and career preparation. (10-12)
133-Interior Design. Focuses on the design of residential and nonresidential
interior environments to achieve occupant well-being and productivity.
TBA-Independent Study in Family and Consumer Science Education. Provides
for a school-based independent study project developed by the student
and conducted under the supervision of the teacher and a mentor from an
industry related to the project focus.
