WSISD Parents & Staff,
It has been brought to my attention that 1 staff member
_X_ On Campus ___ Elementary wing (GR PK-5) __ JH wing (GR 6 &7) _____HS wing (GR 8-12)
has tested positive for COVID 19. The staff member was last on campus on Feb 5, 2021 and has not returned since.
Close contact is currently defined as (1) being directly exposed to infectious secretions; or (2) being within six feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes. Factors such as masks and social distancing may affect the determination of close contact. Walnut Springs ISD practices social distancing and wearing of masks of students, employees and visitors when on campus.
In accordance with state and national guidance, persons should monitor their health for signs or symptoms of COVID and contact their primary health care physician if they develop symptoms.
WSISD has taken steps to sanitize areas that may have been accessed by the individual and will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information as needed. Given the amount of time that has passed and extra measures that have been taken, no adjustment to the school schedule is warranted.

Walnut Springs ISD – Announcement for School March 23-27, 2020
March 23 – 27 – CLOSED
Walnut Springs ISD will be closed starting March 23 through March 27 to support our community and health care professionals in the ongoing goal of containing the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. Additionally, all extracurricular activities, practices and athletic events are still suspended through March 29th.
We do not make this decision lightly. We fully realize it presents significant difficulties to working parents. However, we are hopeful that these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, families, staff, and the larger community.
During the days we are closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will continue to serve our students instructional and nutritional needs in an alternative manner. WSISD is finalizing details on how this may be achieved in a manner that best serves the students, families and community. More information and details will be made available on our website by Friday, March 20th. During the closure we will also be taking steps to deep clean the facilities.
This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information. As information becomes available, we will reassess conditions and make updates as to any future closures. Those notices will be posted on this website.
I realize with this notice and the uncertainty of how the remainder of the year will unfold, there are many questions. At this time, there are more questions than answers to such things as upcoming social events, UIL activities, and the effects of the cancellation of STAAR testing. The school administration is working to provide answers to all of those and other questions. As we receive updated guidance and information from the state as to allowable solutions, we will provide you with the answers as quickly as possible.
Please remember that your health and safety are the key considerations used in the decision to close school. Below are some precautions that have been recommended to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the community in WSISD stay safe and healthy.
Respectfully,
Pat Garrett
Superintendent

General Information
I hope you are having a safe and healthy Spring Break. This Spring Break has brought many changes and uncertainties to our lives. WSISD is working to make the best decisions to enable us to help you, your students, and loved ones avoid health risks and also provide the resources needed to help your student receive continued educational experiences. With information as to how to proceed changing daily, we will be getting information to you as soon as we are able.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA), Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), US State Department, as well as local groups are all providing guidance to schools on how to proceed. Each day, the Commissioner of Education has a teleconference for Superintendents to keep updated on the current recommendations from the State of Texas as to events that are unfolding, best practices for schools, and expectations of the schools to continue to provide educational services for our students. Bosque County Superintendents are working cooperatively on issues that are more localized. Small schools have unique needs that demand solutions which would not work in larger districts; just as the solutions for larger districts would not work for us.
Families’ health and safety are absolutely the main focus of decisions made with regard to whether or not school will be open or not. This decision will be made later in the week as more information and guidance from the State becomes available.
In the event that WSISD not be open to help reduce the spread on the Corona Virus, we will strive to continue to serve our students by providing instructional activities and nutritious meals. To ensure this is possible, we are working to establish a plan of action that will best meet the needs of our community and district.
Cancellations:
School Closings – As of Monday morning at 9:00 am; the state listing shows most closures are through March 20th. We will announce any plans for closure later in the week as we know more.

UIL – Practices AND events will not be conducted through March 29.
